THE UKRAINE APPEAL ‘PEACE NOT WAR’
As a choir we were acutely aware of the issues and events taking place in Ukraine. Indeed, Barnsley has a close association with the Ukraine as the town of Gorlovka is twinned with Barnsley and the two towns have a close relationship.
Members and parents in BYC asked about whether the choir could do something to support families, particularly children, who have been displaced as a result of the war in Ukraine. They face such stark and life-threatening challenges and we felt compelled to do something as an organisation to help those who faced such
awful hardship.
WE RAISED AN INCREDIBLE £3500 FOR THE BRITISH RED CROSS
Carl Firth, managing director of Vortex Clothing and honorary patron, got in touch and was keen to do something to support. Vortex designed a special t-shirt and in March we provided one for every member and adult connected with BYC. People wearing these t-shirts made a voluntary donation to the appeal and we agreed that we would send all proceeds to the British Red Cross Appeal who are working on the front line to support those who are most vulnerable.
Vortex supplied these t-shirts and printed them free of charge at significant cost to the company, meaning that every penny donated by members, volunteers and Musical Directors went directly to the British Red Cross. Without their support none of this would have been possible.
We were so pleased to be able
to join together and wear these t-shirts, and in doing so we raised an incredible £3500 for the British Red Cross. We managed to secure match funding meaning that the Red Cross actually received £7000.
Thank you so much to those that took part and supported
this appeal.
