   KARINA
ERASMUS CONDUCTOR
Karina Erasmus was born in Port Elizabeth (now Gqeberha) in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. She completed her Music Studies in singing, piano and teaching at the Nelson Mandela University in 1983. In 1984 she moved to Cape Town, where she started her teaching career in Paarl. Since 1991 she has been a full-time music teacher at Goodwood Park Primary School near Cape Town, where she leads both the Junior and Senior choirs.
In March 2022, Karina was appointed as the conductor of the two Sing in Harmony National Children’s choirs of South Africa. The members of the junior choir (7 to 10 years) and the senior choir (11 to 14 years) come from across South Africa, with the practice venue based in Pretoria, Gauteng. Karina is also a part-time adjudicator for solo singing and choir events at eisteddfods and other competitions within South Africa.
 When her daughters became members of the internationally renowned Tygerberg Children’s Choir in 1999, she started assisting Mr Hennie Loock, former choir leader of the Tygerberg Children’s Choir, as a voice coach. In May 2019 she succeeded him as the conductor of the choir. She has toured to various destinations throughout the world with the Tygerberg Children’s Choir, performing and competing in numerous international choir competitions. They are currently ranked as the 4th best choir in the world, according to the Interkultur rankings.
