I always find this time of year the most special for Children’s Choir Central, as it really feels like the children have ‘settled’ and are making a fine collective sound.
They are used to my ‘hilarious’ jokes and obsession with multiple names and there is even some eye-rolling starting to take place (this is when we know they are ready for Intermediates!)! Having said that, new members have trickled
in throughout the year and we have welcomed some very strong additions to the fold. Often Children’s Choir would be winding down at
this time of year, however things are actually hotting up this year, as we prepare for possibly the biggest ‘gig’ of our lives; Underneath the Stars! To say we are excited would have to be an understatement! Children’s Choir Central, West and East will be the only choirs representing
BYC so there is a certain amount of pressure to show ourselves in the best light. In the lead up to this we have performed at the Gala Dinner and will be performing this weekend with the world famous Aurin Choir from Hungary.
Having performed Aya Ngena in previous concerts this year (and even in a workshop
with Tygerberg Children’s Choir) we will get
to perform it alongside Aurin, the choir that introduced the song to us in the first place.
It is such a lively, joyous song and will be greatly enhanced by these ‘greats’ of the singing
world. I must take this opportunity to thank our wonderful music team of Michelle, Fiona and Gareth, as well as our fantastic mentors; Vanessa Gill, Georgia Thompson, Zaharah Lash, Olivia Clarke and Remi Lang. Also, our CCC volunteers do a brilliant job of ensuring the children are where they are meant to be, wearing
