SINGATHON 23 FRIDAY 16 TH JUNE – SATURDAY 17 TH JUNE
The concept of a Singathon is one that many choirs have adopted over the years, but I believe that the BYC one is particularly special and,
at times, painful! 13 hours non-stop singing through the night is a task that you can only fully appreciate if you have done it. The fun begins to subside at 4.00am and it’s a massive challenge of resilience and team work.
This year’s Singathon was vital to raise much needed funds. As our costs increase, and the number of children requiring bursaries also increases, funds are becoming tight.
Singathon ‘23 was held at Barnsley 6th Form College for the first time and we are so grateful that the team from the college, including
The Children’s Choirs went home for a well- earned rest, leaving the Intermediate and Senior Choirs to sing through the night, taking it in turns to have rest breaks to ensure that we kept young people safe. The Junior and Children’s Choirs arrived back in the morning at 7.00am and parents then came in at 8.00am to listen
to some final performances, as young people yawned and looked sleepy. At 8.30am we announced that we had raised around £14,000 (once gift aid has been claimed) for BYC and we’d like to pass on thanks to everyone that got behind our young people and supported them in this huge challenge.
members of the marketing, events, estates and technical teams who provided superb support. Particular thanks must go to Liz Leek, Vice Principal of the College, who stayed with us throughout the night to ensure that we were well looked-after.
The Children’s Choir kicked off the evening at 7.30pm and the Intermediate and Senior Choirs arrived slightly later so that we made a prompt start at 8.00pm.
