Junior Choir Central continues to thrive,
with between 40 and 50 children in regular attendance. Now we have started the new Junior Choir in Penistone, our Central children seem like the ‘old guard’ when in reality, some of them are only 4 years old!
However, when you consider that some of the members started as babies in Little Singers, they actually are ‘long-time’ members! This really shows in their singing. Many of the children have an incredible sense of pitch and the choir makes a really good quality collective sound. We have focused on Solfege this term in both Junior Choirs, which is very timely, considering the visit of the Aurin Choir from the Kodály Academy in Hungary. Solfege was created by Zoltan Kodály (the founder of the famous school) and is the system of naming notes (Do, re, mi, etc.) with matching hand signals. We will demonstrate our new-found knowledge of this in our performance of Do Re Mi from The Sound of Music which features all of the mentors/assitants. We are very excited to have Junior Choir West joining us at this
concert for the very first time. I just know that something magical is going to take place!
I must take this opportunity to thank our wonderful musical assistants, Hannah Todd and Bronwen Dooling and our brilliant mentors, Ruby Wright and Morgan Scargill. In addition
to this, our volunteers, Helen Smith, Catherine Wroe and Debbie Hobson. Tom and Gareth are both an inspiration to the children and part of the backbone of the choir.
