Barnsley Youth Choir
Barnsley children need your help to enable them represent Great Britain in the Choir Olympics
Barnsley Youth Choir is officially invited
to take part in the World Choir Games 2020
“Barnsley Youth Choir is a remarkable organisation. It is a registered charity run
by volunteers that seeks to provide outstanding opportunities for young people
who live in Barnsley and has developed an international reputation for excellence.
The choir is currently ranked 5th in the World Rankings and has won 8 first prizes in some of the biggest competitions in the world. Following highly successful overseas tours to Lativa (twice), Germany, Sweden and a landmark South Africa Tour in 2019 (as well as two fantastic trips to appear in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival) BYC is embarking on its biggest and most exciting project.
In July around 78 young people will travel to Flanders, Belgium following an invitation to represent Great Britain on the international stage in the largest and most important choral competition in history. The World Choir Games 2020 will feature around 600 choirs from over 100 nations and a total of over 20,000 singers will converge on the cities of Antwerp and Ghent.
It’s a hugely ambitious project. We want to provide this opportunity to as many young people as possible and children as young as 10 years old will have an experience that
they will never forget and will shape them
as people. Many of our young people come from less affluent backgrounds and need your support. They are working extremely hard to raise funds and have already raised over £20,000 but they desperately need your help. This booklet details a number of ways in which you may be able to support them. Thank you for taking the time to read this information and for any support that you are able to offer.
I am incredibly proud to be the Director of the choir and serve young people in
our community. The choir makes a real difference to the lives of so many and we
are hugely committed to providing the best opportunities possible for young people in Barnsley. I do hope that you are in a position to support them. They provide such a source of pride for so many and have become wonderful ambassadors for our town but they do need your help.”
Best wishes
