 Welcome
and Fiona do so much to help them develop confidence and skill.
The Children’s Choir needed a choir to share their concert with. In the past this may have been a visiting choir from abroad but this time they will be the experienced experts and will welcome the newly formed Barnsley Singers to their stage. Barnsley Singers is a new choir established for adults in our town. It was a great idea on paper; to recruit 50 or 60 adults who would be keen to come together and sing. We certainly didn’t expect the 277 that signed up! Tickets for a 4.00pm concert on 10th December have sold so well that we have had to squeeze another performance in at 5.20pm to ensure that parents and friends do get a chance to watch their loved ones. It’s a logistical headache and we are indebted to the staff at Emmanuel Church for working so well with us to make this possible.
It’s incredible to think that an idea in 2009 has developed into
to our 8th Christmas Concert. How time has flown! We are delighted to welcome you to what should be a fantastic event that showcases the wealth of talent in our town.
These concerts follow a number of performances with a visiting choir from Sweden, the Adolf Fredriks School, last weekend. Lauded as one of the most important music schools in the world it has been fabulous to welcome them to our town and inspire our young people. We hope that this will be a lasting partnership that will provide Swedish and English children with unique opportunities.
We are particularly proud of the newly launched Intermediate Choir. Many of them are new members and they have
made pleasing progress since September. It’s important that they develop their own identity and we have invested in new uniforms shipped over from America. I’m sure that you will agree that the countless hours of measuring, ordering, shipping and
altering have been worth it. Luke Mather and Sondelle Whittaker lead the choir with passion and skill and are ably supported by Jacob Hanson.
Over 280 young people attend BYC regularly and it has become clear that we face an issue with
so many performers and our concerts. It is a nice issue to have! Not only are there logistical issues but we are also concerned that, as the 3 choirs develop, there
will not be enough time for them all to perform enough pieces in concerts. With this in mind we decided to split our concerts to allow a separate opportunity for our Children’s Choir. The 80 strong choir will benefit from an early start and finish to their concerts.
It also gives them much more
of an opportunity to show off
their talent; which is just as well because they are brilliant! They are completely fearless and I know that they will bring a smile to the most reluctant of faces with their infectious enthusiasm. They are developing into a really class act and Eleanor, Rosie, Michelle
