Intermediate Choir
This is an exciting weekend for our new Intermediate Choir. BYC’s key focus
this season is to fully establish a new Intermediate Choir and we have invested heavily in ensuring that these new members have the best support possible.
We are thrilled with the development of the choir under the direction of Luke Mather, Sondelle Whittaker and Jacob Hanson. Support has also been offered by the BYC section leaders; Charlotte Veal (Soprano), Helena Hunter (Mezzo) and Gorgey Bennett (Alto). Gareth Green has offered wonderful support as their accompanist and his experience, skill and ability to advise and support has been invaluable.
Luke has worked hard to develop this choir that includes a large number of new members. They are developing a good technique and are now singing in 3 parts – Soprano, Mezzo Soprano and Alto. We are also keen that they develop their own identity within BYC. We have organised a new uniform for the choir which they will proudly be wearing this weekend.
The new colour of burgundy will be used
by them from now on and will be seen on logos and in their concert uniforms. The dresses have been ordered from America at considerable expense and effort because we want them to feel and look really professional. It has been a huge task for
our Uniform Team. Measuring and ordering these dresses with no margin for error has placed them under considerable pressure. They have also had to alter each dress individually to ensure the fit is perfect.
A large team has made this happen but particular thanks must go to Lisa Ridgeway and Jo Jenkinson who have worked so hard.
We feel that these concerts will be crucial for this choir. They have never performed together and, for many of them, this will be their first ever performance for Barnsley Youth Choir. I am sure that you will agree that they have great potential and that
the future of BYC is bright if our new Intermediate Choir is strong.
