We are incredibly excited to be taking part in the BYC 2022 Fringe Tour in August 2022. After such a challenging last couple of years it’s really wonderful to be planning an event like this, and providing our young people with
the opportunity to perform on the international stage in the biggest and most important arts festival in the world.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the single greatest celebration of arts and culture on the planet. For three weeks in August, the city of Edinburgh welcomes an explosion of creative energy from around the globe. Artists and performers take to hundreds of stages all over
the city to present shows for every
taste. From big names in the world
of entertainment to unknown artists looking to build their careers, the festival caters for everyone and includes theatre, comedy, dance, physical theatre, circus, cabaret, children’s shows, musicals, opera, music, spoken word, exhibitions and events. The Fringe is gargantuan.
In 2019 (the last full Fringe Festival), the world’s biggest arts festival consisted of 3,841 shows from 63 countries, spread over 323 venues across Edinburgh. This was roughly 300 more shows than 2018, and resulted in 59,600 performances, with audiences topping three million
for the first time. All of this took place in just 3 weeks. This year’s Fringe will take place from 05 – 29 August 2022, the 75th anniversary of the festival – a special year to be involved.
We are making a huge commitment to take children and young people from not only the Senior Choir, but also the Intermediate Choir and the Children’s Choirs (offering this opportunity to BYC Children’s Choir Central, BYC Children’s
Choir East and BYC Children’s Choir West). We want to offer this life changing opportunity to as many young people as we can and we are happy to be taking nearly 170 young people and over 30 adults to experience this special event. It’s an experience that they will never forget, and one that will allow them
to showcase their talent on one of the world’s biggest stages.
We are thrilled to be going back to perform in one of the finest venues in Scotland, the famous Greyfriars Kirk, after successful tours in 2016 and 2018. It is an iconic venue and known throughout the world. We will also be staying once again in Loretto School in Musselbrough, that offers excellent accommodation and really good food, including full cooked breakfasts every morning! The school also has a stunning chapel for us to rehearse in with a Steinway piano and the most amazing acoustics.
We’d like to take this opportunity
to thank so many of you that have contributed and supported this trip
so that it is viable. We recognise your support fully, without which we wouldn’t be able to make this happen.
Today’s concerts will feature the teams involved, as well as the music that will be performed in the Fringe, and we hope that it provides you with a special an exclusive preview of what international audiences in Edinburgh are about to experience.
Thank you for your support.
