We are honoured to announce that we have secured the visit of one of the finest choirs in the world.
Dr. Michael Barrett’s multi award-winning choir, Tuks Camerata from the University of Pretoria will visit Barnsley in July 2022. Sadly, previous visits that we have planned had to be postponed due to Covid restrictions, but we are so pleased that this will finally happen, and people in Barnsley will have the opportunity to welcome and listen to the sublime sound that this extraordinary choir makes.
We also welcome the outstanding Grammy Award Nominated composer, Jake Runestad from America. Jake is one of the finest composers in the world,
and it is a huge honour to welcome him to our town. He has been commissioned jointly by both choirs
to write a special piece for this weekend, and Tuks and BYC will sing the world premiere of this piece in these concerts. What makes this even more special is that he will attend in person and will conduct this piece himself.

Tuks Camerata and BYC have a very close relationship that was forged in the 2017 European Choir Games in Latvia when we worked together and performed in a friendship concert. Following this amazing bond that developed, Michael
visited Barnsley to work with BYC and Mat has visited Pretoria to work with Tuks and the special relationship between our 2 organisations continued to grow. In 2019 we toured South Africa and worked once again with our friends who did so much to make the whole trip possible and provided the warmest and kindest of welcomes. The two choirs even created a virtual choir video together during the pandemic, overcoming all of these barriers to continue to connecting with one another.
We are so grateful for them for coming and they will join us as part of a tour that will include concerts in London with VOCES8, Birmingham and Edinburgh. This will be the most important series of concerts that BYC has ever hosted, and we feel so proud to be able to welcome to our town and I know that audience members will provide them with the warmest of welcomes. Tickets will be at a premium, and those that are lucky enough to get one will have an experience that they will never forget.
