Ellie Sperling Soprano
Ellie Sperling read music at Royal Holloway, University of London where she gained a First Class degree. Now
a freelance musician, Ellie currently studies with Julie Kennard. Recent ensemble work include the groups Tenebrae, The Tallis Scholars, Ex Cathedra, Chamber Choir of London and The Sixteen. Ellie is a Teacher-Singer with Pimlico Music Foundation and part-time Music Programme Assistant at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
Emily Hodkinson Alto
Emily studies a Masters in
Vocal Studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
From September she joins the RCS Alexander Gibson Opera School. Emily is a 2019-20 Selected Artist for Making Music UK. Forthcoming engagements include Dido & Aeneas (Ryedale Festival), Elgar’s Sea Pictures (Watford Youth Sinfonia) and Wellgunde in Das Rheingold (Edinburgh Players Opera Group).
Billie Robson Soprano
Billie read music at Cambridge University where she held a choral scholarship at Gonville and Caius College. The choir toured internationally and
she featured as a soloist for several BBC broadcasts. Since graduation, Billie has worked
as a freelance singer in both Paris and London. She studies with John Evans and will begin postgraduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in September 2019.
Sarah Lucy Penny
Alto
Sarah Lucy is a freelance mezzo-soprano currently based in Yorkshire. She is a highly versatile musician, performing
a wide range of repertoire from
oratorio and art-song to jazz, folk and musical theatre. As a choral and consort singer, Sarah Lucy has performed and recorded with a variety of groups and notable choral leaders and she is now pursuing work in both choral
and theatrical contexts.
Luke Mather
Bass
Since graduating from the University of Manchester, Luke has worked in Barnsley for 4 years. Outside of BYC and Barnsley Singers he works as a conductor, singer, teacher, editor and composer and as a workshop-leader
for The Halle and NYCGB. Luke conducts his own professional choir, Icosa, and has conducted over 60 new choral works with the group.

Jacob Ewens
Tenor
Jacob’s musical training began as a chorister at Westminster Abbey. In 2016 he graduated from Oxford University where
he was organ scholar at Keble College. After a year as Director of the chapel choir at Lincoln College Oxford, he completed an MA in Ensemble Singing with distinction at the University of York in 2018. Since finishing NYCGB’s Fellowship programme, Jacob has begun a freelance singing career, singing with groups such as Voces8, Oxford Camerata and London Voices.
