• Gained an MMus - Master of Music (Composition) from the University of Manchester. Studied Accompanying with Prof. David Fanning as part of a Bachelor of Music Degree at The University of Manchester (First Class)
• Accompanist and Assistant MD of Barnsley Singers. A grade 8 pianist and bass guitarist.
• Accompanied, arranged and MD’d the new musical ‘No Horizon’ at the Edinburgh Fringe 2016.

• Studied classical piano under Margaret Bullen and Heather Christian and also absorbed jazz under Tony Turner with the Scalby School Jazz Orchestra, regular category winners in the National Festival of Music for Youth, performing at important
venues internationally.
• Became an Associate of the London College of Music at the age of 17. Gained a BA (Hons) at Birmingham University. Studied piano with Dennis
Matthews and Michael Young at
Birmingham Conservatoire.
• Gained a PGCE from Bretton Hall. Worked as secondary music teacher, peripatetic piano teacher and as primary schools pianist/ singing educator. Gareth is a published singer/songwriter whose songs have been recorded on both sides of the Atlantic.
• Has had extensive experience playing in the ‘pit orchestras’ for Take 2/Academy Theatre Barnsley, Wombwell Operatics and Wickersley Youngstars Rotherham, as well as work with No Mean Feet (ceilidh), Take 2 Big Band (jazz) and the Demon Barbers (contemporary folk-rock/ hip hop dance) on their national XL, Lock In ‘Remixed’ and Lock In.

• Studied music at Huddersfield University where she was awarded a BMus(Hons) degree followed by a PGCE teaching qualification from Bretton Hall College.
• The Deputy Head of Lindley Junior School where she has been a major influence in helping to build the tremendous reputation of the school nationally.
• The Lindley Junior Choir have been winners of the prestigious BBC Songs Award and Barnardos Junior Choir the Year, three times
succession. The children’s choir have performed at the Llangollen National Eisteddfod, Leeds Town Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall.
• Accompanies the New Mill Male Voice Choir and The Huddersfield Light Opera Company as well as several other musical groups and choirs across the local area.

Helen Madden Accompanist
Accompanist BYC Children’s Choir East
• Studied Jazz, pop and contemporary music to degree level at Leeds College of Music. Her career has since focussed on education, performing and composing. Toured throughout Europe as saxophonist with various jazz and pop groups.
• A music examiner with a specialist focus on Jazz, Pop and Musical Theatre. Her piano
and woodwind music
is included in ABRSM, LCM and TRINITY music exam syllabus and is
a published composer
(Spartan press, LCM and ABRSM publications).
• Gained an MA in composition from Leeds College of Music and is completing a PhD in composition at the University of York under the supervision of Professor Roger Marsh.
• Recent works include the inclusive children’s opera ‘The Magic Paintbrush’ (written for professionals, young children and participants with complex needs) and ‘Maria Medea’ (premiered in York Theatre Royal 2018). Continues to focus on writing large scale inclusive works for young people, including those with additional needs.
